Pflugerville High School students are collaborating with Connally and Hendrickson students to submit two films—a short narrative and a documentary—to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. If the films are accepted, and if enough money is raised, students will attend the films’ premiere in France this May. Last year, a short film produced by Connally students premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. This year, the program has become a non-profit, and the hope is to send more students to France.

A new school year will also bring about a controversial new teacher salary system.
Beginning next fall, Pflugerville Independent School District will do away with the step schedule, which had aided the state legislature in giving annual teacher raises for more than 25 years.
“I was shocked and very surprised that they were going to take away our step schedule,” said science teacher Amy Daniel, secretary of the Pflugerville Educators Association (PEA).

With the district-wide college fair just around the corner, October has been designated as “Education–Go Out & Get it Month”. Counselor Sara Mullin has put together a power point for more than 20 Texas colleges and universities. Each day on PTV, a different college will be shown with highlights from that school.
In addition, each Friday during the month of October, faculty and students are encouraged to wear their favorite college shirts.
Students will be decorating teacher doors or creating banners showcasing favorite universities and door prizes will be given away. The …
